At Valley I preach maybe five times a year. It is rare. When I do speak, I like to provide extra preparation material for those who want it. I think a lecture (like a sermon) is more effective when the people in the room have been thinking about the topic before they show up. The prep material isn’t necessary…but it will enhance a participant’s experience.
This Sunday I’m going to be speaking on Acts 6:1-11. Valley is in the middle of a series called “What is the Church?” and I’ve been asked to speak on how members of the church work together to accomplish the mission of God.
I’m calling the sermon “Avengers Assemble” because I’m a nerd at heart who loves comic books.
I think the sermon is going to be taped. If so I will post it here on Sunday night.
Here is the prep video I made today. It’s not fancy, just me talking into a web cam; but hopefully you enjoy it.
My instructions to the congregation were to…
- Watch the 8 minute video.
- Read Acts 6:1-11.
- Compare and contrast Acts 6:1-11 with John 13 and Luke 11:37-53.
- Read 1st Corinthians 12-13 and Romans 12.
