I’m sorry all you faithful Elkins blog readers. I realize it has been over a week since I posted anything. I know this means many of you have been sitting in front of your computer screens, waiting patiently, pressing the refresh button every few minutes. I bet by Wednesday you started to twitch a little and felt itchy all over. Don’t worry. Don’t call your doctor. Those are simply symptoms of withdrawal. They should go away in another paragraph or two.
We had a ton of stuff happen since my last post. Let me break it down for you…
On Friday night we held the Back to School Picnic for our amazing school. I bought pizza and fried chicken for 80 people (the rough number from the year before). The picnic started at 6pm. The food was gone by 6:20pm. Special shout out to Zorba’s Pizza for hooking us up and for keeping the food flowing to us through the night. The night was fantastic. Great turn out! Great kickball game! Great people! Everything was tons of fun.
On Saturday my ten-year-old, Jackson had two soccer games. It was our first ever soccer tournament. Jackson was awesome. It’s been two years since he played on a soccer team. We’ve had him in a soccer clinic at the school hoping it would turn into a team, but it never gained enough players. His entrance to a real team was rocky. We could tell he wasn’t sure how to move on a field full of players. But by the middle of the first game he was figuring it out. He scored a goal in both games. Then in a follow up game on Sunday he scored three times. I was blown away.
Never having played or watched competitive soccer, I was unsure how to cheer. I found myself yelling football stuff. Things like:
- Hit Him!
- Tackle him!
- Don’t let him by you!
- Pop Him!
After receiving strange looks from the other parents, I decided it best if I left the yelling to Wendy.
On Saturday night we traveled south toward DC for Aunt Martha’s house for her annual bash. Great food and live music were in abundance. Upon arrival Wendy and I found lawn chairs in the front yard next to the kiddy pool. Before I could sit down, my three-year-old, Jude had stripped down completely naked and was splashing in the pool and running through the yard. That’s how we Elkins roll. ”It’s a party? Well let me take my pants off then!”
The biggest news of the week though is that Wendy and I discovered we will be bringing a fifth child into the world! You read correctly! On April 10th there will be a fifth Elkins terrorizing the world. We are super excited!
That’s all I got. More posts next week.
